SEVEN CROWS

RELEASE NEW SINGLE

‘THE DEFEAT OF THE SPANISH ARMADA’

“An electric wonderland full of different moods and soundscapes...Maybe it’s time to take our eyes off our screens and let our ears help us re-engage our imaginations” - Dan MacIntosh, SKOPE

Seven Crows is the bold, genre-bending project of Los Angeles violinist and producer Chris Murphy, whose new single ‘The Defeat of The Spanish Armada’ is released this week (Dec 19th). Seven Crows latest release looks back on the rise and fall of empires - a sonic reflection on Spain’s brief moment of global power, the sound of sails, storms, and shifting fate. Layers of violin and texture trace how history itself rises and dissolves into the sea.

‘The Defeat of The Spanish Armada’ is the second single from the upcoming new album Powers of Observation (Teahouse Records, Feb 2026), hailed as “an electric wonderland of moods and soundscapes” (Skope) and “an atmosphere of intrigue…surpassed by an echoing violin strumming” (Warlock Asylum).

Seven Crows isn't just music - it's a living, evolving soundscape. It shifts, unravels, and rebuilds itself in real time, pulling listeners into a deeply emotional and transformative experience.

The new album is a striking exploration of ambient, post-rock, and experimental soundscapes built entirely from the dynamic voice of the electric violin.

With shimmering sustain lines, fluid legato phrasing, and the art of live looping, Murphy creates expansive soundscapes that blur the boundaries between ambient, world, and cinematic music. The result is an immersive sonic, post-rock journey—both visceral and transportive - where global influences meet experimental innovation.

Following the critical acclaim of his 2023 album Secrets of Navigation - praised as "stunning" (The Bandcamp Diaries) and "ambient music that glides along flawlessly" (Skope Magazine) - Murphy continues to expand the sonic possibilities of the violin.

Recorded in Portland, Oregon, with noted producer Gregg Williams, Powers of Observation is a 14-track collection that channels influences from classical, jazz, electronic, world music, and experimental traditions. Every sound on the album was created exclusively with Murphy's five-string electric violin and an array of guitar pedals, resulting in a haunting and immersive atmosphere that feels both intimate and cinematic.

On stage, Seven Crows thrives in the moment. Known for raw energy and fearless improvisation, Murphy transforms each performance into a one-of-a-kind experience. His music has carried him across more than 40 U.S. states and to stages in the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
