Paper Verses, a folk duo from Kent comprised of Simone Lincoln and Matt Evans, is excited to announce the release of their debut single, "A Song For Life," on January 16th, 2026. This track is the first release from their debut EP, "Lifelines," which is set to come out in February 2026.
Recorded at Big Jelly studios in Ramsgate, and engineered by Mike Collins (Allo Darlin’). "A Song For Life" is a poignant piece written by Matt during the pandemic, a time when even the most arch skeptics questioned the nature of existence. The song showcases Matt’s unique acoustic finger-picking guitar style alongside Simone’s exceptional vocals, which effortlessly transition from delicate lightness to powerful delivery. The track also features beautiful two-part harmonies, complemented by the gentle hum of a harmonium and violin throughout.
Simone Lincoln, born in England and raised in Germany, is a classically trained singer who studied and sang opera for several years. Her extensive background as a music therapist and psychotherapist has equipped her with an ability to connect musically on an emotional level rarely heard these days. Her voice embodies both strength and fragility, combining power and grace.
Matt Evans, influenced by both English and American folk music, has spent his life playing in bands and writing songs. Utilising various tunings and a distinctive flat-picking guitar style, he crafts songs that explore the everyday while asking universal questions.
In 2025, Paper Verses performed live at various folk nights and venues along the Kent coast, as well as taking the stage at Broadstairs Folk Week and the Maverick Festival in Suffolk.
