THE DREAMING SPIRES New Single ‘21st Century Light Industrial’

Out August 22nd

pre-order

"...pays homage to American rock idols like Big Star, with Byrdsy harmonies

and charming accents" - Time Out New York

''...power-pop hooks and sweet harmonies'' 8/10 UNCUT

Acclaimed Oxfordshire five-piece The Dreaming Spires are set to release the second single ‘21st Century Light Industrial’ off their upcoming record Normal Town (October 24th, Clubhouse Records), an atmospheric and anthemic track that explores alienation, escapism and the monotony of the everyday drawing on band members’ experiences working in the same local industrial park.

The Dreaming Spires are a British band best known for their distinctive harmonies, roots-infused sound and Americana-tinged indie rock. Brothers Robin and Joe Bennett formed the early 2000s Oxfordshire indie band Goldrush, who signed to Virgin Records. Over the last decade, they have toured the world as part of Saint Etienne's live band and the award-winning Bennett Wilson Poole. Jamie Dawson drums for touring US artists such as Annie Keating and Carter Sampson, while Tom Collison also plays keys in Danny & the Champions of the World. Nick Fowler is the band member of choice for the likes of Gaz Coombes and Peter Buck.

‘21st Century Light Industrial’ takes its inspiration from Milton Park, Didcot’s sister employment zone where most of the band have worked at one time or another, before the old-fashioned warehouses and distribution centres were replaced with glossy science labs and coworking spaces. Already a live favourite, the track is driven by an energetic drumbeat and poppy guitar riffs against a backdrop of abstracted industrial noises, while the dampened lead vocal explores alienation, escapism and the monotony of the everyday. Robin’s dry delivery of lines like ‘got to be more than this, because we barely exist, when we’re working at the 21st century light industrial park’ lend the track a typically British quality.

‘The ‘same ten songs’ heard on the radio (one that sticks in the mind is ‘Millenium’ by Robbie Williams) place the setting of this song around the year 2000. After a brief interlude with a major label record deal, by 2003, I was back working at Milton Park in a temp job, dreaming once more of escape.’ - Robin

Normal Town explores themes of home, nostalgia, alienation and the beauty of everyday life, blending 60s rock 'n' roll influences with chamber pop accents, underpinned by a subtle layer of political commentary. In addition to their standout live performances, the band immersed themselves in various creative projects. This year The Dreaming Spires celebrate their return with an impressive new record and UK tour dates, marking the start of an exciting new chapter.
