“One of the best songwriters in popular music unjustly flying under the radar.” - NO DEPRESSION

“Murphy’s music is an absorbing and timeless blend of genres” - AMERICANA UK

“The Red Road is an absolute knockout.” - FOLKING

Released on June 6th, 2025 on Teahouse Records, Live in England is singer-songwriter Chris Murphy's latest full-length live album. Captured last year at Sheffield’s well loved grassroots venue The Dorothy Pax, this 12-track collection delivers the quintessential Chris Murphy folk sound—raw, melodic, and emotionally resonant.

The album is a snapshot of Murphy's well-crafted live show with songs drawn from his extensive and eclectic body of work, ahead of his return to the UK and Europe this summer.

Born and raised in New York and now based in Los Angeles, Chris Murphy is a violinist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who performs over 200 shows annually across the USA and Europe. His music—what he calls a "live film score"—explores love, loss, hope, and redemption, delivered with emotional depth and a charismatic stage presence.

Blending Folk, Jazz, Classical, World, and Ambient styles, Murphy's performances are as captivating as they are versatile. Following the release of his new live album Live in England, Chris Murphy will return to the UK in 2025 as the Artist at Large at the Maverick Festival in Suffolk—bringing his magnetism and unforgettable musicianship back to one of the UK's leading Americana and roots music festivals. Full tour details below.

Chris Murphy Live in England is Murphy's latest full-length live album. Set against the warm, ambient backdrop of one of England's beloved folk venues in Sheffield, which closed its doors last year, the album showcases Murphy's songwriting prowess through a rich blend of melodic strings, rhythmic percussion, and grounded basslines. From the tongue-in-cheek wit of "Early Grave" to the contagious chorus of "Halfway Around the World" and the poignant instrumental tribute "A Prayer for Martin Bedford," each track offers its own compelling chapter in a deeply human story.

"Playing my songs live, in front of an audience, alone—with nothing more than a violin, a few guitar pedals, and a vocal mic—is what I live for. This is my temple. My canvas. My potter's wheel. The waves I surf. My confessional. My redemption. My story. Each performance is a moment—a reflection of the room, the people, the city, my state of mind, and how these pieces of music choose to show up at that particular time. No two are ever the same. This recording captures one such evening in magical England, in the ancient and soulful city of Sheffield. I was invited by the legendary Martin Bedford to perform at The Dorothy Pax—a music venue, juke joint, speakeasy, and social club on an old cobblestone canal. A special place with a beating heart.

This set is for Martin and everyone who's ever paused—even for a minute—to listen to me pour my heart out through the violin. Next round's on me." CHRIS MURPHY

The live album features twelve original tracks taken from his ever-growing and multifaceted catalogue, including his most recent releases' Sovereign Revisited' and 'The Red Road'. This carefully honed selection showcases Murphy's range as a songwriter, with hints of Celtic, Appalachian, and post-modern boho jazz, all underpinned by hypnotic, foot-stomping two-beat fiddle grooves.

Catch Chris Murphy live in concert and see a master musician at work. You won’t be disappointed.
